Toronto-based artist Caroline Ji’s work lives in the Venn Diagram of diasporic memory and deeply effusive hues. The colours that animate her work seem to dart at the viewer, reaching the eyes far before the form and content that shape her domestic scenes. Joining Cannopy for our Studio Sessions series, Ji swaps her neon-tipped paintbrushes for a pen and paper as she pauses to reflect on how her studio space sustains her creative atmosphere. She also discusses the broad sweep of her artistic evolution from the predominance of blue hues in her earlier works to the fluorescent greens - reminiscent of Hopper's greenery - that make frequent appearances in her more recent pieces.
