For the next issue of Cannopy Magazine, we’re asking artists a simple question: Are You In Love? We want to get a sense of how they fell in love with their latest project, and how the many loves of their lives can be channeled into one artistic vessel.
Next up: Elysia Biro
With Running From Nothing, Canadian jazz musician Elysia Biro arrives with the kind of quiet confidence that feels less like a debut and more like an unveiling. Released via Universal Music Canada and Deutsche Grammophon, the EP situates her at the intersection of jazz, pop, and classical tradition, pairing live-off-the-floor arrangements with a voice that is both technically assured and emotionally unguarded. Built around intimate piano and trio settings, these songs—written across countries and shaped by moments of transition—read as a series of reflective dispatches, what Biro calls “letters to my younger self.” The result is a deeply personal, elegantly rendered first statement that positions Biro as a fully formed musical voice already in conversation with something timeless.
